The Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) for Special Olympics Ontario is happy to announce and welcome, Derek Spence as the new Manager of the Ontario Law Enforcement Torch Run!
Derek recently retired from the London Police Service (LPS) after 32.5 years of service, but his involvement with the LETR for Special Olympics dates back over 30 years. After years of volunteering at local events, Derek officially got the “hook” in 1994 when he organized a friendly soccer game between members of LPS and local London Special Olympics athletes which fuelled his LETR and SO passion for over 3 decades.
In 2019, Derek was selected to represent Ontario in the Final Leg of the Law Enforcement Torch Run at the World Games in Abu Dhabi, U.A.E.. Sharing his passion for the Torch Run and Special Olympics with like-minded members of the global Law Enforcement community strengthened his commitment to the LETR and opened his eyes to opportunities after policing. We are thrilled to have Derek join our team with his passion, commitment and dedication to the movement shining bright.
Derek has also been employed at Fanshawe College since 2014 as a Part Time Professor in the School of Public Safety, teaching courses in Law as well as: Ethics and Professional Preparation.
