Major praise for Constable Denise Szachury and the Dryden Police Service.

Szachury is the recipient of the Rising Flame Award by the Ontario Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics.

She received the honour at the Law Enforcement Torch Run Kick Off in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan.

Szachury was recognized as an “individual who shows exceptional promise of leadership and continued contribution to the Ontario Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics”.

Dryden Police Chief Doug Palson says the honour is well deserved.

Palson says “she does a bang up job in whatever she does and it's great to see her recognized by Special Olympics Ontario for the great work that she's done to take the lead in our involvement with Special Olympics and some of the events and fundraiser's”.

The Police Service also received a special award for achieving third place in the ‘Highest Increase in Gross Revenue' demonstrating financial growth through fundraising efforts for the 2018 Polar Bear Plunge that took place on Canada Day.

The event raised more than $3,200.

Palson says the Special Olympics is something that is near and dear to the heart of police agencies across North America.
