Two members of the Kingston Police force are being recognized for their work and engagement in the community.
Canine unit officer Const. Jeff Dickson and Staff-Sgt. Jody Armstrong have both been nominated for the Police Association of Ontario's Police Services Hero of the Year Awards. More than 100 members of municipal police services were nominated to receive the awards by people in the community. The awards can be for specific events or for their support and involvement in the community.
The Whig-Standard caught up with Armstrong while he was drinking coffee among the Austrian mountains, where he was representing Ontario in the Special Olympics Torch Run, which has travelled through 49 Austrian towns and villages prior to the country hosting the Special Olympics World Winter Games. Saturday was the end of the 12-hour days of running and travel and on Sunday he completed another Polar Plunge.
The work that has brought him to Austria is what earned him his nomination.
“I prefer to stay behind the scenes, but it feels rewarding that somebody is recognizing you for something worthwhile within the community,” Armstrong said. “It's an honour to have the nomination. There are a lot of people who have been nominated, and I'm pleased and honoured to be along them.”
