It all started 10 years ago when Mike McAllister invited Aletta Brown to a LETR event. “I met the athletes and never looked back,” said Aletta. “I loved everything about Special Olympics Ontario!” To this day, Aletta’s involvement has continued because of her connection with the athletes. “The athletes. The smiles. Knowing that I am making a difference,” all of which Aletta expressed as her motivators for involvement.
The Special Olympics Ontario School Championships held in Niagara through June 12th to June 14th in 2017 gave Aletta the opportunity to further her involvement with LETR. Aletta took on the role of Marketing and Entertainment Chair for these Games. With her hard work, these Games were not only incredibly successful but also, extremely memorable. Shortly after wrapping up the event, hosting the Youth Games became one of Aletta’s favourite memories throughout her time with LETR.
For Aletta, Special Olympics remains near and dear to her heart. “Special Olympics means giving more than I could ever receive, but feeling like I receive more than I can ever give.” With that, she encourages others to get involved with the movement. “The athletes appreciate and love you for giving,” said Aletta.
It is with extreme gratitude that we thank Aletta Brown and the rest of the Niagara Regional Police for their continued support of LETR and Special Olympics. Their fundraising efforts and athlete support is a prime example of all that is great behind the scenes with LETR and Special Olympics Ontario.
