This was breath-zapping, heart-stopping fundraising as more than 125 courageous souls made like human ice cubes Saturday to raise money for the Ontario Special Olympics.
Each paid $75, or fundraised at least $150, for the privilege of leaping into an outdoor dunk tank during the annual Polar Plunge at the Peel Regional Police Association facility in Brampton.
And here’s the cold, hard truth: the water was 3 C when the tank was filled mid-afternoon. Then it chilled to numbing perfection in a bracing -4 C.
Talk about putting the brrr in brave.
“Five minutes of sacrifice to make a difference in people’s lives is well worth it,” said Greg O’Connor, a constable with Peel Regional Police who was about to suit up as Plungee the Polar Bear for a star turn in the tank.
